Welding
Program Description
FTC’s welding school prepares students to begin a career in the welding field. You will learn the technical and practical knowledge needed to interpret manufacturing drawings and construction blueprints, calculate measures, as well as bend, cut, grind, and weld ferrous and nonferrous metals. Techniques include shield metal arc, gas metal arc, flux core arc, gas tungsten arc, and pipe welding.

Core Courses
Industrial Safety
This course emphasizes the fundamental concepts related to safety and health in the industrial, manufacturing, and servicing industries. Prevention and remedial measures to face accidents caused by electric shocks and toxic gas inhalations are discussed. Regulation of the Department of Labor and OSHA applicable to these industries is also covered.
Introductory Craft Skills
This course encompasses classroom and laboratory study of introductory craft skills and safety. Areas of study include basic safety, construction math, hand and power tools, construction drawings, rigging, communication skills, employability skills, and material handling.
Welding Level 1
This course encompasses classroom and labwork study of the fundamental skills of the welding trade. Areas of study include the core curriculum of the welding trade, equipment, setup, and techniques of shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), including beads and fillet welds, joint fit-up/alignment, groove welds, and open root groove welds-plate./
Welding Level 2
This course encompasses classroom and laboratory study of the novice skills of the welding trade. Areas of study include welding symbols and detailed drawings. Furthermore, the course familiarizes students with the properties and handling of metals. Students will learn the techniques of gas metal arc welding (GMAC), flux core arc welding (FCAW), and gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW).
Welding Level 3
This course encompasses classroom and laboratory study of the intermediate skills of the welding trade. Areas of study include different pipe materials and the various types of pipe welds.
