Program Description

The Electrical Diploma Program provides students with technical skills and practical knowledge, as well as the skills needed to perform installation tasks, provide service, and troubleshoot and repair residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems. Graduates from this program will be able to fill positions such as an electrician’s helper in residential and construction firms in the electrical trade industry.

Core Courses

Industrial Safety

This course emphasizes the fundamental concepts related to safety and health in the industrial, manufacturing, and servicing industries. Prevention and remedial measures to face accidents caused by electric shocks and toxic gas inhalations are discussed. Regulation of the Department of Labor and OSHA applicable to these industries is also covered.

Electrical 100

This course encompasses classroom and laboratory study of the fundamental skills of the electrical trade. Areas of study include the core curriculum of the electrical trade, namely, its history, safety, tools, and skills employed by modern electricians, including understanding circuits, reading codes, installation, bending conduit, and testing equipment.

Electrical 200

This course encompasses classroom and labwork study of the novice skill areas of the electrical trade. Areas of study include electrical mathematics, drawings and blueprints, building structure, and current.

220 hours

Electrical 300

This course encompasses classroom and laboratory study of the intermediate skill areas of the electrical trade. Areas of study include load calculations, lighting, advanced safety, equipment, power loads, and cable systems.

160 hours

Electrical 400

This course encompasses classroom and laboratory study of the advanced skill areas of the electrical trade. Areas of study include load calculations, healthcare facilities, emergency and specialty systems, and crew leadership.
